This work was created using field recordings from the city of Barletta: the countryside, the streets during the patronal feast, the train, the sea, and the sounds of the night. It is inspired by the painting The Road from Naples to Brindisi by the Barletta-born painter. Throughout the journey from Naples to Brindisi, I imagined fragments of memories—like sudden flashes—awakening in the painter's mind. These sounds, drawn from the places encountered along the way, blend with the memories deeply rooted in the artist's soul, leading him to relive moments from his hometown. True unconscious flashes. Thus, a sea of voices magically transforms into the actual sea along the western coast of Barletta, with the lapping of waves constantly echoing the relentless motion of the train (just like the first Italian railway, born in Naples). This train, in turn, merges with the air, the wind, the night and the day, capturing the sounds of the surrounding countryside. The present, memory, and recollection harmoniously blend within the artist's creative mind, forming a stream of associations. The listening experience is conceived as an inner journey through memory. Environmental sounds gradually lose their documentary function and become symbolic elements that activate recollection. Rather than narrating a sequence of events, the work invites the listener to experience memory as an unconscious process. The work was realized in Csound, with the score generation carried out using ALkatMIST, a software environment developed by the composer for algorithmic score generation and the control of compositional processes.

This work is a journey that starts from London (sax player sounds), goes to Chicago (drums players sounds) and takes you to Florence to see Michelangelo's David (guides's voice). The work includes the joy of traveling to see art, the joy of creating art, the joy of talking about art. The sound material is composed of recordings collected by: London underground, Chicago street musicians, Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence. The second sound material is a research about sentences on art. Among these sentences H.Matisse's ("Creativity takes courage") sentence, Michelangelo's sentence ("I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free") and Giacometti's sentence ("The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity") has been chosen. In the middle part of the work there is a sound art creation made by the manipulation of recorded sounds. The last sound material has been made interpolating sounds. The aim of the work is to generate a reflection on the beauty and positivity of art as something that creates personal growth in a positive way.

Conversations about the history of Mamuju—especially during my time in the hills of Kalumpang—almost always led to one place: the pier on the coast of Sampaga. When I finally arrived there and met an elderly man, he told me that Old Sampaga Village, once a site of migration, trade, and cosmopolitan encounters between the Kalumpang highlands and the coast of Mamuju, had disappeared, gradually claimed by coastal erosion. This sound composition is constructed from recordings collected during my residency across the Kalumpang highlands, the coast of Sampaga, and Karampuang Island.

For this piece, I listened to the silence of an empty house nestled in the Jura mountains of eastern France. Although I grew up in the countryside, I have lived in the city for several years. I came to this isolated house seeking quiet, intending to record various sound sources for a new acousmatic composition. Very quickly, I realized that the seemingly silent environment surrounding me was far richer and more compelling than the sounds I had originally planned to capture, as though I had forgotten how alive the natural world is. Some passages of the work are presented as unaltered field recordings, allowing the place to speak for itself. Others recordings have been edited with great care and respect for their original character, while gently shaping a narrative informed by my own presence and by the feelings that emerged during that spring week in the house. During these few days, I shared the house with two cats, Atremis and Paprika, whose movements, curiosity, and attention to the surroundings quietly guided my own listening. I also encountered musical instruments left in the house. Rather than treating them as instruments to be performed, I approached them as resonant traces of human presence, using them only in an evocative way, as part of the house's sonic memory. In a few moments, I also explored acoustic feedback, using the rooms themselves as resonant bodies and allowing the architecture to become an instrument. The piece invites the listener to listen with the place itself—with its subtle resonances, its non-human inhabitants, and the memories carried by its spaces.

The Formosan Nacirema — 김지현 (kkuku) (한국)

[7'38", 2026]

〈The Formosan Nacirema〉 is a field recording–based sound work that captures the sense of unfamiliarity experienced while communicating in non-native languages in Kaohsiung and Tainan, Taiwan. The first half of the work opens with the sound of footsteps and moves through the alleyways of the old city, accompanied by cars, scooters, the voices of locals seated nearby, the humming of electric fans in Taoist temples, and the clatter of fortune-telling blocks. It seeks to show what a newcomer hears first upon entering an unfamiliar place and how they gradually come to perceive the environment. Soon, the focus shifts from the ambient sounds of the location to human voices, narrowing the sensation of unfamiliar space down to the experience of confronting an incomprehensible language. In the subway arrival announcements, multiple languages are heard in succession, including Mandarin, regional Taiwanese languages, English, and Japanese. Interviews conducted with local residents capture the sound of an unintelligible native language, hesitations in conversation, self-conscious laughter, and moments of reacting with an "ah-" without fully understanding what was said. Even when literal meaning is not fully conveyed, communication continues without interruption through non-verbal cues such as pitch, tempo, hesitation, and laughter. This work portrays the sensation of unfamiliarity. It seeks to reveal the position of the "other": arriving in a foreign place, navigating amidst unreadable scripts, and communicating in an unfamiliar language—and the resulting experience of incomplete listening. Here, listening is not about logically and fully comprehending another's words; rather, it is about leaving the incomprehensible unparsed while paying attention to non-verbal elements like pitch, pacing, gestures, eye contact, and laughter, ultimately remaining present together with others, places, distances, and memories. The title combines "Formosan," derived from Formosa, a name historically used by Westerners to refer to Taiwan, and "Nacirema," which is "American" spelled backward. "Nacirema" is drawn from the work of anthropologist Horace Miner, who famously defamiliarized everyday American customs by describing them from an outsider's perspective. The title highlights that familiarity and strangeness are not fixed properties inherent in an object itself, but qualities that shift depending on the position of the person observing and listening.

Naples To Dublin, Then Dublin To Naples, Is It Over (Overament)? — Andrea de Lisio (이탈리아)

〈Naples To Dublin, Then Dublin To Naples, Is It Over (Overament)?〉는 2026년 5월 12일에 발매된 데뷔 앨범 《The Electro Obsessive-Compulsive Collection》의 마지막 트랙이다.

〈Naples To Dublin, Then Dublin To Naples, Is It Over (Overament)?〉is the final track of my debut album, The Electro Obsessive-Compulsive Collection, released on May 12, 2026. The album was written over a period during which I experienced the onset of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), making the emotional impact of this condition the central source of inspiration throughout the work. The album explores a mental state in which an obsession gradually gains increasing control, eventually overwhelming the individual, who then feels compelled to perform a specific ritual in order to relieve the resulting anxiety. Within the music, the distress generated by the obsession is transformed into dark soundscapes, dense textures, and aggressive sonic gestures. In contrast, the temporary relief experienced after completing the ritual is expressed through expansive, almost paradisiacal sonic environments characterized by lyrical melodies, harmonic consonance, and large reverberant spaces. Composed in March 2024, this particular piece reflects a transitional period in my life, marked by my move to Ireland to continue my studies. The two opposing musical worlds are further intensified by the emotional tension between uncertainty about the future and the excitement of embracing a new chapter. However, optimism ultimately prevails, fueled by the hope that this major life change might also mark a positive turning point in the course of the disorder. The word overament is a Neapolitan expression meaning "really" or "actually", included here as a pun on the English word over. From a technical perspective, the piece was developed primarily from concrete sound material, consisting of both personal field recordings and royalty-free audio samples, then extensively transformed through manual editing and layering, multiband distortion, granular echoes, reverberation, shimmer processing, and harmonization.

After reading “Mies van der Rohe: das kunstlose Wort” of Fritz Neumeyer, I realized that the art of architecture goes far beyond mere spatial organization; it possesses a spiritual value that shapes practical forms of life, opening up and anchoring our everyday existence.

This insight naturally brought to mind the "brain" enclosed within the skull. Though we all possess brains of similar physical form, we continuously cycle through the acceleration and stabilization of life within boundless time, driven by the manifestation and evolution of microscopic neural networks.

Furthermore, guided by our distinct values and aesthetics, we each form our own temporal rhythms, dismantling and reconstructing time. This realization reaffirmed the infinite potential of the brain, reminding me that the physical body is a material prerequisite from which a new spiritual existence is conceived, guided by our desires and will to live.

I sought to translate these philosophical reflections into the language of music. The core of this work revolves around glitch sounds, born from repeatedly distorting and processing the original tones generated by SuperCollider and synthesizers through various plugins. I used these glitch sounds as metaphors for the micro-movements of living muscles and the precise operations of the brain—imagining the fleeting manifestations of neural signals either overloading or relaxing. By blending these with acoustic sounds, I aimed to represent the convergence of internal and external voices, much like opening a door and stepping out into society. Additionally, the deliberate insertion of explosive bursts and mechanical noises was intended to illustrate the intense cohesiveness of sound.

Up close, life may seem to fluctuate relentlessly. Yet, we all navigate our static and dynamic existences according to our own speeds and orders. This piece carries a personal wish for my uncle, who recently underwent brain surgery, hoping for his peaceful recovery and return to everyday life. Ultimately, through this work, I wish to offer an optimistic possibility to the world: with a steadfast will, anything can be overcome.

Aides… mémoires… is an ongoing, evolving project, comprising short acousmatic pieces (3–6 minutes long) by Jonty Harrison and Pete Stollery. Each piece is based on a field recording made in a particular location on a particular day, evoking specific memories of place and time for the composer, but also hopefully – through shared listening ('listening with') – prompting memories of similar experiences in others. The project allows us to revisit our personal archives of field recordings collected around the world over several decades – sound material that has usually not found its way into our other pieces. With the decision to focus on short works, we were also absolved of the classically trained composer's lingering guilt over what might constitute musical structure and form; sometimes just a simple statement is enough! The pieces range in nature (sometimes within each one) from 'reportage' to 'abstraction' and are often characterised by seeming to place the listener in unlikely, if not impossible, locations. Each piece is composed by just one or other of us; these are not 'joint compositions'. Most of our older archive material was recorded in stereo, using a variety of recording devices, microphone techniques and microphone types (including contact mics and parabolic dishes). We took the decision, however, to develop material and compose the pieces using ambisonics wherever possible or realistic, enabling us to offer versions of each piece in several formats.

A postcard to Wales. Hiraeth can be interpreted as a homesickness for a time and place that exists only in one's memory. A nostalgia that rears its head at unexpected moments, shifting shapes as contexts change and memories form new meanings. Using the home as an allegory for hiraeth, sounds were selected for their capacity to draw forth strong personal memories. These materials are recontextualised as we venture through the living spaces, becoming tinged with new emotions and associations as the environment shifts around them, each transformation revealing new emotional nuances of hiraeth. I approached field recording of the interior of my childhood home, as well as outside in the Welsh countryside equally, recording extended sessions around the house as my family move and live to capture the sounds heard in the day to day environment. A family of animals and many young children made this quite exciting, and I explored the close miking of objects that stood out to me during the process, mixed with more ambient 2nd order ambisonics recordings to capture spaces and places over an extended series of time. By layering these places I aimed to create a mise en scene that moves through the house as a sound walk, transitioning between spaces and sounds, perspectives, and times of day, with my memory of my childhood home drawing my compositional ear when arranging. The listening experience is essentially a series of rooms, their objects, and the recontextualising of them through processing.

Chirurgia dell'urbanistica ionica — Vincenzo Procino (이탈리아)

Chirurgia dell’urbanistica ionica — literally, Surgery of Ionian Urbanism — is an acousmatic work developed from field recordings made in Taranto Vecchia, the Old Town of Taranto, the southern Italian city where I was born.

Taranto lies on the Ionian coast of Apulia, facing the Mediterranean. It is traditionally known as the “City of Two Seas”, as its urban geography unfolds between two bodies of water: the Mar Grande (Big Sea), opening towards the Gulf of Taranto and the Ionian Sea, and the enclosed Mar Piccolo (Little Sea). Between them lies Taranto Vecchia, the historical centre of the city, built on a small island connected to the modern town by two bridges. Its dense architecture of narrow alleys, passages, stairways and small squares forms an intricate urban fabric in which the sea is always physically close, even when it is hidden from view.

This particular geography has profoundly shaped the identity of Taranto. The island exists between land and water, enclosure and openness, historical stratification and contemporary life. It is simultaneously the oldest part of the city and a living neighbourhood, inhabited by a community whose everyday presence constantly rewrites its acoustic identity.

Chirurgia dell’urbanistica ionica does not approach Taranto Vecchia as a monument or as a picturesque Mediterranean landscape. The work is concerned with the island as an inhabited sonic organism.

Its soundscape is made of overlapping layers: voices, fragments of music, domestic and urban sounds, movement and environmental noise. The local Tarantino dialect plays an important role within this acoustic environment. Its highly recognisable cadence, accent and phonetic character give the human voice a specific musical presence: even when individual words are not understood, speech remains a marker of belonging, carrying within it the identity of the place and of the community that inhabits it.

The island is therefore not simply the geographical setting of the composition. Its inhabitants are among the forces that continuously produce the place itself.

"A Chinese Triptych" was composed with recordings from an extensive sound documentary made by the artist in the Chinese cities of Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shanghai, Wuxi, Harbin, and Beijing. The piece overlaps sonic events from the rural, the industrial and the digital China in a single flowing musical discourse, attempting to represent the full range of highly contrasting ways of living in China. The piece lasts exactly 6 minutes, a number that is given in China the connotation of events "flowing smoothly". The form and proportion of the parts are inspired by the triptych, an art format comprised of three thematically-interrelated parts in which the middle panel is usually the largest. Direction or source of the field recordings used: The sources are exclusively field recordings taken in outdoors sites of Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shanghai, Wuxi, Harbin, and Beijing in China.

Why is why of no stranger — Stelios Manousakis

모든 소리는 2008년부터 2013년 사이에 작가가 미국(Mount Rainier, Seattle, Redwood National Forest, Humboldt Redwood Forest, San Francisco, Oahu Hawaii), 오스트리아(Vienna; Kramsach, Tirol), 네덜란드(The Hague; Scheveningen; Ijmuiden WWII bunkers), 그리스(Chrisi Akti, Crete; Kontokynigi, Crete)에서 직접 녹음했다.

〈Why is why of no stranger〉is a first-person sound-film without image; an immersive acousmatic environment with no beginning or end, in which the 'film' emerges through the listeners' ears rather than eyes. Motives and modalities from cinema, radio-play, and first-person videogames are abstracted to develop and destroy fragments of narrative, space, place, and psychogeographic auras. Why is why of no stranger contemplates states of being and the resonance of experience. It is concerned with embodiment, mediated memory, and hyper-reality. The work is composed using sound material from the artist's personal archive, recorded in various sites during the span of five years. Real, lived spaces and real, lived events, represented through recordings of their sonic existence at a specific moment, are combined, juxtaposed, altered, or enhanced: from soundscapes, to incidental sounds, to actions, to sounds performed on-location, and to the noise of the apparatus itself – microphone handling noise, electromagnetic interference, the sounds of microphones being destroyed by the elements as they record. Human bodies, bird bodies, animal bodies, machine bodies, the bodies of spaces, and the bodies of media create a cyclical environment of fragmented narratives – a synthesis of 'media-stored', and thus 'media-altered' memories where the experiencing body occupies the center as perceiver and generator. All sounds were recorded by the artist between 2008-2013 in: USA (Mount Rainier, Seattle, Redwood National Forest, Humboldt Redwood Forest, San Francisco, Oahu Hawaii); Austria (Vienna; Kramsach, Tirol); The Netherlands (The Hague; Scheveningen; Ijmuiden WWII bunkers); Greece (Chrisi Akti, Crete; Kontokynigi, Crete).

Kurdistan is a vast plateau of northern and northeastern Mesopotamia. Iraqi Kurdistan refers to the four provinces of northern Iraq that are autonomous from the central government and guided by the KRG (Kurdistan Regional Government). These provinces reached independence after the revolts in 1991, and their autonomy is now officially honored by the establishment of federal Iraq after the fall of the Saddam Hussein regime in 2003. Travelling around this land with such a complex history, is an intense deep dive into many different cultures living together in peace, and I am congregating the feelings I got through those experiences in a unique story told through moving sounds and still images. Despite the harsh stories I heard from the people I've met, I don't want to output a compassion story, but a story of the present vitality and a self exploring research into what could be mine and everyone else's historical roots. The work focusses on being part of that environment, with those people, in that weather. It's about being alive against someone else's will to have you annihilated.

We sometimes attempt to categorize and define relationships using terms like love, friendship, closeness, and distance. Yet there is no clear boundary separating them, nor do emotions become any clearer through finer subdivisions or calculated scales. Relationships move constantly alongside shared time and experience. Drawing near and drifting apart, they seem to find balance only to tilt once more. Shifting with every moment, they resist being bound by a single definition. In this way, relationships remain unfixed.

Even so, the sensations experienced within relationships remain. Subtle sounds unnoticed at the time, such as footsteps walked together, the sound of writing something down, wind sweeping through a space, or water repeatedly dripping, can sometimes summon a specific moment far more vividly than any detailed explanation of a relationship.

Indeterminate State is a sound-based work that explores relationships defying definition in explicit language, along with the sensations left within them. The work views relationships not as a complete state, but as continuously shifting orbits and movements. Sounds recorded at different moments maintain their distinct sensations while juxtaposing, repeating, and overlapping, constantly transforming their relationships with one another. A sound that once existed independently creates a new context when meeting another, sounding distinctly different when it reappears. Through these movements of sound, the work seeks to reveal states of relationship that resist being fixed by a single name, along with the ever-shifting distances and sensations within them.

POCO is an audiovisual collective derived from the musical term meaning "little by little" or "gradually."

Focusing on sensations and states that undeniably exist even when they cannot be clearly articulated through language, the group contemplates these ambiguous realms, expressing them through various forms of music, video, and text.

Since forming in 2025, they have been exploring a diverse spectrum of sounds while developing an artistic language unique to POCO.

The body is a place that allows sound to pass through. Sound brushes past the body at every moment, lingering within even before it is consciously perceived. passage is an attempt to listen to sounds impulsively collected from different times and places together, or overlaid within a single expanse of time. Working in photography, I find that a photograph compels us to gaze at the reality that a scene has passed and will never return. Sound, by contrast, is absorbed by the body even before one realizes that the immediacy of the moment has slipped away. In certain moments, I found myself pressing the record button before the shutter.

In passage, field recording is not a method for reproducing a place; rather, it is a record of the process through which sounds from the outer world pass through the body and remain as sensation. Environmental sounds and bodily sounds are inseparable. Recurring breath connects with ambient noise, while spoken words—rather than conveying meaning—are broken down into syllables and rhythms, turning into pure sonic presence. I wanted to ask whether language—or voices that ultimately failed to become language—could also be listened to as environmental sound. By layering close-up recordings with sounds captured from a distance, passage seeks to create conditions for listening where sounds usually unheeded can resurface to the fore. Breath serves as the underlying rhythm coursing through the entire piece. In The Hatred of Music, Pascal Quignard writes, "I am searching for the sound that existed before language, that hovers without leaving." In passage, sound is neither a language meant to convey meaning nor a record meant to reproduce a place. It is a trace of sensation that brushed past the body yet lingered, and a medium through which sounds collected across different moments can meet once more within a shared act of listening.

Night asks night how it is doing. Night must fall asleep. Night cannot fall asleep. Night looks back on the day, cares for it, and turns away. The face of the night is hidden by the moon. The face of the moon is hidden by the Earth. Night turns its head to stare into the darkness. It walks along dark alleyways. Between alleyway and alleyway, there is shade. Between shade and shade, a shadow. Between shadow and shadow, the in-between. The in-between of the in-between. The in-between of the in-between of the in-between. Night walks along the pathways in between. A past night bites the tail of the procession of nights.

A Primer for Night-Making is a sound work drawn from Night-Making, a participatory workshop where participants traverse the nighttime city together and ask after one another. Gathering in front of Exit 10 of Myeongdong Station, participants walk through Sejong Hotel, the Memory Grounds for the Comfort Women, Euljiro, and Cheonggyecheon at night, physically confronting the "thick present" of the city in which they are entangled. This listening version weaves together sounds recorded by Yueun and Orominkyeong at different times and locations into a single sonic piece, designed to expand the sensory experience of walking through listening along selected sections of the route. Within the work, everyday streets, choral singing in public squares, voices from Wednesday Demonstrations, radio broadcasts from Palestine and Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh, birdsong from East Jerusalem, sermons praying for peace, insects and birds on a school hill, and island waves all meet in the middle of the night of Night-Making. A Primer for Night-Making proposes an experience where sounds separated across time and space become cross-connected through the act of collective listening.

Phase 1 – Wandering.

Phase 2 – Trembling.

Phase 3 – Breathing.

1n mY ro0m is a field recording-based work created using sounds from "my room," arguably the most subjective and private of spaces, as its raw material. Viewing the room as both a giant instrument and an acoustic environment, the piece collects and reconstructs sounds discovered within it to explore new auditory possibilities inherent in everyday spaces. In this sense, the title 1n mY ro0m intentionally warps the spelling of familiar words, gently disturbing the familiarity of "my room" to propose a new perspective on space and a fresh posture of listening. The work consists of three phases that expand the room into a space of objects, a space of psychology, and a space of existence.

Phase 1: Wandering
Perhaps the entities that occupy a room the longest are not people, but the objects within it. Beginning with the rhythmic pressing of an upright piano pedal, the work gathers various sounds of the room around this central motif. In particular, improvised phrases played on a rusty, untuned guitar left in a corner for a long time serve as a key sonic element, revealing the temporal qualities and traces of the space less as a musical instrument and more as an object constituting the room.

Phase 2: Trembling
While the room is the most private and comforting space, it is also a place where anxieties and deep concerns linger most heavily. This phase builds a distinct sense of rhythm for the first time through sounds harvested from fingernail clippers. Repeating and undergoing timbral transformations, this rhythm imparts tension to the space, audibly surfacing sensations of restlessness and anxiety.

Phase 3: Breathing
After the repeated tension subsides, the room returns to being the most private of spaces. The third phase captures precisely this sense of vulnerability. The sound of blowing into a glass bottle, vibrations from a rimmed glass moistened with water, and the timbre of a children's xylophone create transparent, delicate textures that contrast with the previous phase, painting an inner landscape left behind in the room. In the end, all sounds fade away, leaving only the sound of my breath.

This electroacoustic work originates from a field recording captured in Madobag Village on Indonesia's Mentawai Islands, documenting the natural soundscape of local children playing beside an ancient well. Rooted in personal sonic memory, the piece meditates on the stark juxtaposition between the transient tranquillity of travel and the relentless pressure of mundane daily existence, unfolding a tense dialogue between two contrasting acoustic and temporal worlds. The composition opens with a serene island ambience, layered with soft sustained drones and delicate textural grains to shape a dreamlike liminal space. This calm equilibrium is abruptly disrupted by intrusive, sharp phone alarms and mundane urban noises, which act as sonic symbols of modern life's relentless acceleration. The sudden rupture dismantles the meditative sound realm, creating drastic shifts in sonic density, energy and perceptual rhythm. Beyond sonic structure, the work interprets acceleration as a pervasive social and temporal phenomenon: the slow rhythm of remote rural life collides with the fast-paced, high-pressure tempo of contemporary daily routine. It explores acceleration not merely as a temporal speed change but as an aesthetic tension between stillness and instability, memory and immediate reality. The piece ends with unresolved narrative tension, oscillating perpetually between nostalgic recollection and the inescapable accelerated present.

2. Transient Beauty — Dimitris Maronidis (그리스)

…Turning shadow into transient beauty." — T.S. Eliot.

The work "Transient Beauty" was created during two weeks of artistic research at the ICST ZHdK (Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology – Zurich University of the Arts) in August 2015. It is a work that reflects the psychological and social impact of a politically and economically unstable period in Greece. The morphological course of the work follows a transformation from a solid, noisy and chaotic sound world towards the calmness and purity of a female voice, which functions as a metaphor for the reversal of emotions: from anguish and anxiety towards peace, hope and inner beauty. Technically, the work is developed through high-density sound textures, digital processing and spatial arrangement of sound, while incorporating verbal fragments that refer to literary and existential references.

3. Between Pictures — Adam Stanović (영국)

I am never quite sure what to think when listeners describe my music using the term 'filmic'. Are they referring to a certain sense of space that is, perhaps, similar in both electroacoustic music and film..? Or perhaps it is a sense of dramaturgy or narrative that they find similar..? I am not sure. But whatever the case, my very first piece was described as 'filmic', and such comparisons continue to this day. Between Pictures is the first of my pieces that is intentionally filmic. It was my attempt to think through filmic connections in my music, and electroacoustic music more generally. It was also an opportunity for me to explore certain sounds that I previously recorded and composed for film but, sadly, never used. This work challenges listeners to think, specifically, about the relationship between acousmatic music and film sound (specifically, Foley, sound design, composition, and ambient sounds). It was inspired by several filmic ideas about: 1. transformation of referential materials (as found in the films of Michel Gondry, or in the early compositions of Trevor Wishart) 2. transitions between spaces (as found in the films/series of David Lynch, for example the dream sequences in Twin Peaks, and in the acousmatic works of Suk Jun Kim, for example the space transitions in Kotmun) 3. narrative 4. dramaturgy. These inspirations informed the choice of materials in Between Pictures. They also informed the transformation of those materials, their placement in a narrative-like structure, and ultimately the global form of the work.

[5'00", 2026]

The project of this sound work, created at six hands, began at the residence of the Chicharra Nomadic Listening 2026 Festival, organized by Coletivo Refluxus and dedicated, in this edition, to "Earth's Shout". The Chicharra Festival was held in Mexico, between March 2 and 8, 2026, in the heart of the Mayan region, in Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Our composition shares an exercise in listening to everything that surrounded us during our residence, and aspires to be a ritual that allows us to encounter other worlds. The composition brings together soundscapes from various locations in Zona Maia, such as the archaeological site of Chacchoben, Balam Nahn Lagoon, the jungle of the region, the city of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, the Maia Sanctuary and the Maia Fair, in addition to the activities carried out during the Chicharra Festival and other vocal elements recorded especially for the composition, which created multiple layers of territories and voices. We want to provide a re-enchantment of the world; It is about a philosophical journey, a return to ourselves through a deep exploration of all beings in relation to this territory. The rite allows access to symbolic dimensions and makes it possible to multiply perspectives in the construction of collective dreams. The original sounds are also mixed with the noises of contemporary life, from the syllables of the Mayan language to the sounds of the two animals that inhabit the jungle, from the pre-Colombian musical instruments to the symbolic King, animal-guide of the entire Mayan culture: Balam, or Jaguar.

Luka is a sound script centered on Mina, her grandmother Nao, who has lost hearing in one ear, and a black goldfish named Luka. AI voice, electronic sound, and field recordings layer lakes in Japan with a stream in Busan, connecting different times and places. Framed conversations between Siwoo and his family foreshadow his later connection with Mina.

Minhwi Cha builds works from self-written texts, AI voices, and the form of sound novels. Through his concept of “sound script,” he transforms plays into listening experiences using voice, electronic sound, and field recordings, while exploring the interaction of acoustic structures and digital processes.

Invisible, Desperate, Yet Sometimes Beautiful follows Sinu and Hyunah through illness and care. Moving between understanding and misunderstanding, connection and disconnection, they fall out of step yet remain together, listening for what passes between words and silences. The work grew out of Mysterious Silence in the Ward, a 2025 performance created together by Sinu and Hyunah. The title comes from a line by poet Choi Seung-ja.
