1. CONCERTINO for the Stari Most — 유코 카토리 보게 (Yuko Katori Voguet)
I did not know much about the Old Bridge in Bosnia. Early 2025, however, the UK organisation Cities and Memories gave me a field recording of the place due to my participation to one of their projects. The bridge was an obvious intrigue as it contains rich history of the region. I created materials from the field recording in addition to other synthetic sounds of mine, and used them fully in this 20 mins piece. Hopefully, it can evoke complexities of emotions sealed in that particular bridge. This is an acousmatic 32 (multichannel) composition, so the submission file is a stereo reduction. I have borrowed the tiltle CONCERTINO from the work of my late composition professor, Yasuo Sueyoshi, who is no longer with us.

(Violet Frances Cato)
Composed from two sonic worlds—an imagined river patrol along the East London docks and the raw thud of domestic labour—Cockney brings together industrial memory and intimate violence. Metallic textures and wet air meet the crack and rasp of shaken fibres. A river listens; a carpet fights back.
The piece begins with the sounds of the Thames—abstracted, metallic, shifting—and moves into the beat of dust shaken from woven fabric. What follows is a collision and a merging: recordings stretched, fractured, and layered until the lines between gesture and geography blur.
There is no voice here—no spoken accent—but the East End resonates in the rhythm, the grain, the pressure of sound. Cockney conjures place not through language, but through force and residue, a culture embedded in texture and noise.
Part memory, part invention. Always moving.

3. Ahuexote —
Cities and Memory – remixing the world, one sound at a time
Ahuexote is an acousmatic work, commissioned by the “Cities and Memory - remixing the world, one sound at a time” project. The piece explores the sounds of the waterways of Xochimilco (Mexico), the oar of the trajinera, the breathing of the tree, and the heartbeat of the ecosystem. In the still mirror of its waters, an ancestral pulse beats in Xochimilco: its canals are the arteries of this land, where axolotls murmur and the liquid, silent memory of flowers is preserved.
The soundscape is disassembled into distinct acoustic components, each projecting its own timbral and temporal trajectory. Like the ahuexote, a sacred tree of the Nahua people and a natural inhabitant of water bodies, the work unfolds sonic dimensions that evoke its spiritual anatomy and, also, its territorial resonance:
— The tree that hears and mutates water, — the one that walks with its arm like an oar, — the one that breathes downwind, — and the filigree of birds upwind.
The work was created through various spectral processes, dismantling the soundscape into timbral, tonal, and noise components. Each of these elements has been altered in time, pitch, and dynamic spatiality, coexisting with re-synthesized and transfigured sounds, gradually transforming a natural landscape into an unexpected new one.
Listening is transmuted into corporeal experience, and corporality into aquatic sowing. Ahuexote embodies the vibratory memory of the landscape and invites us to inhabit it: an amphibious, vegetal, and living vibration.

5. Water-drought patterns —
Water-drought patterns tells the story of an aquatic environment suffering drought. Transitions between real places and their future condition are explored through the fictional dimensions of sounds of organisms and matter. Processed airborne, underwater and surface vibrations express forces, flows and competing elements and reveal multiple listening perspectives in space. Micro events and textures transmit plant and animal reactions to drought; adapting, struggling, behaving differently. Listeners navigate across multiple temporal and spatial scales and scenarios.

Workshop (13:00–17:00)
2 (Field Recording Workshop: Soundwalk Route 2)
Field Recording Workshop: Soundwalk Route 2
Sat, Oct. 18, 13:00 - 17:00 | Number of participants: 15
Synopsis
Field recording is an act of embodied listening, which is key to sonic nomads. As opposed to what many would think, the ultimate goal of field recording is not to collect sounds that can be used later; rather, it is to learn how to listen on the field, with our body. When we are on a field recording, we are not recording sounds; we are recording the poetics of those sounds.
Each of these workshops, which will take about four hours, the Transients team and the participants will take a soundwalk with a small handheld digital recorder and a set of headphones. As we trace the crumbs of sounds, we will often stop and listen to those that dwell in many corners of the urban contexts - small, narrow, silent alleys on the one hand, and streets bustling with people, cars and other urban objects on the other hand, and also some fantastic and surprising unreal places where water, wind, plants, insects, birds and other animals co-exist. All these objects make, and listen to, sounds. Being a sonic nomad means to connect our listening to theirs inquisitive and openly.
What to prepare for the workshop:
A set of wired headphones with a 3.5 mm jack (not earphones or wireless headphones)
A small notebook and a pen
You will be provided with a Zoom H1n small handheld digital recorder with a small windjammer.
Deep Listening Session 5 (19:00~)
1. Doorframes covered in masking tape — 마티아 베네데티 (Mattia Benedetti)
doorframes covered in masking tape is a piece that employs percussions, concatenative synthesis and voice fragments to explore an empty space.
Warehousing - corporations buying entire floors (entire buildings) just lo leave them empty and raise the prices. At the center of our cities, this creates a vacuum - a space barely seen, barely existing.
The piece is not a naturalistic description - it’s a vaguely distorted mirror of the subjective feelings this kind of liminal space evokes.

3. Paysage — 호르헤 라모스 (Jorge Ramos)
Commissioned by Festival RE:FLUX ‘16
Honourable Mention at the Música Viva Festival 2021 International Electroacoustic Composition Competition by Miso Music Portugal
Dennis Smalley (b. 1946) defines source bonding as the natural tendency to relate sounds to supposed sources and causes and to relate sounds to each other because they appear to have shared or associated origins. Thus, bonding play is an inherent perceptual activity.
Consequently, I began to rethink how and what to think about ‘sound’ and its behaviour, and most importantly, to hear ‘sound’ differently. This self-reflection on my sonic somatic knowledge led to a broader perspective on what I, as a composer and researcher, should consider sound as music. Hence, I wrote Paysage, a soundscape piece based on the processing of the sounds that surrounded me during the writing process. This effect was enhanced by the imposed limitations during confinement, which meant that I had to share the same house to work and to live in, which made me realize how musical sound is constantly all around us.
Written in 2021 as part of my Doctor in Music — Composition at the Royal College of Music, London (EN). With the support of The ACTOR Project (CAN); Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (PT) & Royal College of Music (EN).

(George Edmondson)
The work, titled “Samothraki” is a stereo soundscape composition developed through an extended period of listening, walking, and conversation with residents of the Greek island of Samothraki. Part sonic ethnography, part auditory diary, the piece reflects on embodied presence and relational listening. It captures the friction between place and displacement, between environmental stillness and social movement. Using only field recordings gathered over several months, from goat bells and waves to market chatter and mountain paths, the work offers a layered reflection on how people and environments sound together.

〈An Interrupted Memory〉는 루이스 대학교(Lewis University)의 “Art of Memory” 시리즈를 위해 2009–2010년에 작곡된 작품이다.
An Interrupted Memory was written in 2009-2010 for Lewis University “Art of Memory” Series. All of the sound sources for this work were taken from five recordings, each two-minutes in length. These audio clips were recorded simultaneously at five different locations on the campus of Lewis University in the fall of 2009. An Interrupted Memory attempts to capture and sustain two minutes of the soundscape of Lewis University on that day at that time.

(Thanos Polymeneas)
Whoever has spent their summer in any part of the Mediterranean basin, must have witnessed one of the most immersive aural experiences specific to that place and time, the cicadas’ song. Their pervasive sound runs continuously from dusk to dawn in any part of the land, making no one immune to it. The electroacoustic composition Tettix-‘A was the result of a series of creative “accidents” more than an aimed-for work. It all started in the hot haze of the summer 2022, while doing some field recordings in the south Peloponnese. All the recordings seemed to be “spoiled” (in one way or another) by the obsessive sound of the cicadas. The pervasiveness of the cicada’s sound in the recordings, caused the final submission to the idea of making a composition about cicadas, rather than trying to fight their sound. Tettix-‘A, is the first work of the composer on the sound of cicadas, and it fosters the idea to further explore musically the song of this extraordinary insect in future works. The entire piece is based exclusively on a single sample of one cicada solo, lasting only a few seconds, this material is exposed at the beginning of the work. Out of this small sample and its processed variations, a large corpus of audio content was made. The corpus was split into categories based on an analysis of its characteristics (e.g., spectral information). The navigation through this large corpus of data gave shape to the overall piece into its final form.

(Dimitris Bakas)

Untitled#1 is a Soundscape Composition composed during the Sonic Mmabolela Workshop/Residency in South Africa, organised by Francisco Lopez and James Webb. It focuses on the listening experience requiring an apophatic attitude from the listener, a type of intellectual negativity that is, which stands away from contextual associations of any sorts. The work uses two types of material, field recording and fence recordings (using contact microphones). By enhancing the recordings of the fence, it creates interplay between the two, something that is not possible otherwise, and by that a hybrid soundscape.

(Seoryang Kim)

(Jiyeon Kim)
